It’s okay to talk. But that doesn’t mean it’s easy. As frustrating as it may be to hear, it can take time. For some, longer than others. I was first diagnosed with anxiety and depression in 2012 and it was only really last year that I came out properly and told everyone my story. Not just my close family and friends, but people I hadn’t spoken to in years, even complete strangers. This isn’t for everyone. What’s really important, initially, is that you have someone to talk to. An outlet. A break away from a very lonely and isolating place.
I know, however, that it’s easier said than done. I felt more comfortable telling my story because I had recovered a great deal and felt strong enough to talk about it. English had always been my favourite subject at school and I used to love writing. In a strange way…
